GRND Coffee Co
Marble surfaces and polished brass inserts meld with industrial elements in this compact cafe space for GRND Coffee Co in the Dawliya complex in Kuwait City. In order to separate the cafe from the old building wall structure, architect created a separate steel structure works as an envelope finished with oak wood in a herringbone pattern with brass dividers, echoed by brass spacers in the polished terrazzo floor.
30m²
Retail Project
To maximise the 30 square metre space, rather than tables and chairs, we provided a row of upholstered benches along one wall accompanied by small, lightweight tables that can be easily moved to suit patrons’ needs. Along the opposite wall, a marble counter runs the length of the slim space with ceiling-hung metal shelving above providing additional storage and reflecting the exposed metal piping in the ceiling. Painted in bright red, the metal piping provides pops of colour in contrast to the otherwise natural palette.
“Our journey to GRND Coffee Co started seven years ago with a bag of single origin coffee, a blade grinder, and a French press,” say the clients. “Fueled by curiosity and a love of coffee, we furthered our education with a lot of reading, video tutorials and finally certified courses in London and Dubai. On a continuous quest to always brew a great cup of coffee, we experimented with all the brewing gadgets we could get our hands on. We started with manual brew methods and then we entered the beautiful world of espresso making. And now we are excited to share it all with our customers!”
